It’s that time of year again: The time of resolutions, big goals, and making promises to ourselves. If you’ve promised to eat healthier, that might mean forgoing fast food in 2020. But you have to eat something. If you’re on a tight schedule and need to visit a fast food establishment once in a while, what can you eat that also fits into your weight loss plan?
You might be relieved to learn that many fast food restaurants have begun to consider variety with regard to their menus. And many are now including healthier options alongside their regular fare. In particular, the following six dishes are available at some popular fast food chains, and they won’t sidetrack your weight loss plan.
These are just examples of dishes available at some popular chain restaurants, but you can probably find something similar at many other popular spots. You can also ask if your favorite restaurant features a “light” menu (many do, but don’t widely advertise them). Others don’t necessarily offer a light menu, but they do make their nutritional information available to anyone who requests it. You can also find this information online, in many cases.
Otherwise, consider the main source of added calories in many common dishes. Ask for salad dressings on the side, and choose oil-based rather than creamy dressings. Leave the mayo off of sandwiches, and opt for grilled protein over fried.
And of course, as part of your weight loss plan you will emphasize protein, whole grains, and fresh produce. Remember to base most of your meals off of that combination.
