No, it won’t cause estrogen overload. Soy is rich in isoflavones, which structurally resemble estrogen. Rumors have swirled regarding “overdosing” the body on estrogen, contributing to breast cancer, lowering men’s testosterone, and other fears. However, research has yet to support these ideas. Isoflavones are not metabolized in such a way that they would contribute to your estrogen levels, so you don’t need to worry about a daily serving or two doing any harm.
Yes, some people are allergic… But it’s not as common as the media makes it seem. About 0.4 percent of children are allergic to soy, but nearly all of them outgrow the allergy by about age ten. So it’s extremely unlikely that you will suffer an allergic reaction (unless, of course, you already know that you’re allergic to soy).
